MEGT is a not-for-profit organisation which has been supporting employers, apprentices, trainees, job seekers and students for almost 40 years. Initially founded as the Outer Eastern Apprenticeship Scheme, by 1999 MEGT (Melbourne Eastern Group Training) had commenced operations in New South Wales.
How does MEGT work?
As a registered Group Training Organisation (GTO), MEGT can employ you directly and place you with a Host Employer to complete your apprenticeship or traineeship. This means we’ll pay your wages, monitor your training, and make sure you have the mentoring and support you need along the way.

Do you get paid for being apprentice?

The Boosting Apprenticeship Commencements wage subsidy supports businesses and Group Training Organisations to take on new apprentices and trainees, to build a pipeline of skilled workers to support sustained economic recovery.
What is the apprentice/trainee rebate for 2021?
In July 2021, it pays $50,000 in exempt apprentice/trainee wages. The rebate reduces the employer’s monthly periodic liability by $1,187.50. The maximum rebate you can claim in a return period is equal to your payroll tax amount for that liability. All rebate records must be kept for 5 years.
What is the trainee and apprentice exemption?
The trainee and apprentice exemption provides relief for the first 12 months of wages paid to eligible employees who commence a training contract.
What is the 12 month payroll tax exemption for apprentices?
Wages paid to apprentices and trainees who commence a relevant training contract between 10 November 2020 and 30 June 2022 (inclusive), will receive relief equivalent to a 12 month payroll tax exemption. Wages paid to these employees do not need to be included in payroll tax calculations.
