Yellow Tongue flooring is a structural-grade particleboard sheet for interior use in domestic buildings. Sheets are 3600 x 800 x 19mm with a Tongue and Groove. Note: Yellow tongue was made at a width of 900mm originally, but changed to 800mm in late 2019.

Can particle board be used for flooring?
Particleboard, which kind of looks like oatmeal, is comprised of small wood particles that are glued and formed into sheets. These boards, which are typically manufactured in 4″ x 8″ sheets, are not suitable as a subfloor. Structurally, they lack the strength and height needed for a hardwood flooring installation.

Trade Essentials® Particleboard Flooring is capable of withstanding general weathering for up to 3 months. Less exposure however, is recommended. To maintain best practice, packs of Particleboard Flooring should be protected from the weather before installation.
What is heavy duty for particle board?

What flooring can you put on particle board?
As far as hard surface flooring is concerned, particle board subflooring will limit you to a vinyl plank floor or a laminate floor. Sublfoor leveling is a very difficult and costly task on particle board. If the subfloor is not smooth enough for a plank floor, then we would only be able to install carpet.
Can I install laminate flooring over particle board?
You can put laminate over particle board, but it is strongly advised to avoid this if possible. Particle board is very susceptible to moisture which can cause it to swell and deform. It’s also not a suitable subfloor when it comes to stability as it is not structurally supprotive.

There is no international supplier of performance flooring that will recommend particle board as a sub-floor. By manufacture and intent, chip or particle reconstituted material is very dense and in comparison to plywood “dead” with a much-reduced energy return.
