This theory is disproved in Watanagashi-hen, in which when Sonozaki Shion kills Rika, and Meakashi-hen, in which Rika commits suicide. In both instances, the villagers do not react and life for them goes on normally, even into the Heisei Era and past the year 2000, as shown by Meakashi-hen’s endgame TIPS.

Their implied ages on June 19 1983 are 11 for Rika and Satoko, 13 for Rena, 14 for Keiichi and Mion/Shion, and 15 for Satoshi. The anime, manga and console ports support these ages, but the live-action movies and TV drama aged the kids up, probably by about 3 years.
Is Mion a demon?
